The Visual Art League of Lewisville (VAL) is an all-volunteer organization with members who share an interest in the visual arts and fine crafts. We organize multiple member shows each year, provide local artists the opportunity to showcase their work, produce visiting artist lectures, networking with other organizations, educational art activities such as demonstrations and hands-on projects, and participate in various community events. VAL is very involved in serving and enriching our community through art-viewing experiences in a local setting, supporting the schools in their visual arts programs, and collaborating with other non-profit groups to serve our community. The Visual Art League welcomes membership into our group and is excited to have you participate in our activities and visit our exhibits. Membership includes artists, students, educators, and art patrons wanting to support the local arts community. Members provide docents to Lewisville’s Grand Theater Gallery and volunteer for other events. The Visual Art League is proud to be sponsored in part by the City of Lewisville.

Join us for an inspiring evening featuring award-winning fiber artist, Marilyn Henrion!
The presentation will trace Marilyn Henrion’s journey as a fiber artist and mother of four through the
wild ’50’s and ’60’s at the heart of a historic period in the New York art and literary scene up to her
continuing creative explorations in Texas as she approaches the age of 93.
At home with both abstract and more representational imagery, her works reflect on the intricate
interplay of color, form, and texture. Hand quilting coupled with digitally manipulated photography
utilizes modern technology while at the same time honoring traditional fine craftsmanship.
About the Speaker
Marilyn Henrion was born in Brooklyn New York in 1932. She spent all of her adult life as a resident of Greenwich Village until 2022, when she relocated to Plano Texas at the age of 90. A graduate of Cooper Union, she is an internationally recognized artist whose works are included in museums, corporate and private collections worldwide and who is represented in the Smithsonian institution’s Archives of American Art. In this three-day workshop, we will spend the first day drawing from a live model, starting with gestures and warm-ups and then moving on to longer poses. We will also spend two days painting the full figure and concentrating on anatomy, form, and proportion.
