Organized in 1978, the Visual Art League began as a small group of members who sought to enhance the appreciation of artistic talent in Lewisville, Texas. These members met once each month in each other’s homes, in local businesses, and in the former Chamber of Commerce building in order to discuss their work, hear art professionals speak, and watch professional artists demonstrate techniques and artists’ materials.
In addition to providing judges for student art shows and classes for seniors, members exhibited their own art work in local businesses, parks, and in the Greater Lewisville Community Theater.
In June of 1997, the Visual Art League established a center for activities when members began leasing a vacant storefront on Main Street to use as a gallery space. Following that space, VAL occupied two other spaces in Downtown Lewisville. One space was next to the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre and many times they shared in exhibits and receptions. Then VAL moved to a much larger space adjacent to I-35E and resided there until near the end of 2011.
Today, VAL is happy to be residing in the Lewisville Grand Theater & Center for the Creative Arts) located at 100 N. Charles Street. There, VAL holds a monthly meeting and art speaker each month at 7 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, monthly Art Trading Card workshops, 4 gallery exhibits with opening receptions, and exhibits in the lobby and hallway.
VAL welcomes visitors to all their events free of charge with donations appreciated. We hope to see you at our exhibits or wandering the halls of the MCL Grand.
