Jackie Haugen – Watercolor, acrylic, mixed-media
Jackie Haugen is a resident of Highland Village and a painter of 30+ years. She has studied with numerous instructors in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Texas and at TWU and UNT as a watercolor major. Her art is frequently described as energetic and imaginative.
History is important to her and Jackie considers herself a storyteller in paint and an abstractor of nature. She has won many awards through the years.
Jackie is active in the Visual Art Society of Texas and the Visual Art League of Lewisville. She says she values her friendship with other artists as much as she enjoys the making of art.
Featured Artist: Darla Bostick
Date: Saturday, May 31, 10:30 am - noon
Location: Wayne Ferguson Plaza
About the Artist:
Darla is a Denton, TX resident with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas Tech University. She has been involved in the arts since that time as an art educator in IA, AZ, NM, MO, KS and TX. In her personal work she finds the greatest challenge and satisfaction in watercolors and photography.
Love of travel is evidenced primarily in her photographic images which later inspire paintings in watercolor or mixed media. Since painting on site is not always convenient when traveling, Darla uses her camera as a sketchbook to capture the colors of a region, its architecture, unique landscapes and the people’s daily lives.
She has traveled to 85+ countries. This love of travel initiated her annual Art Adventures Abroad where she takes very small groups with her to learn how to record images through photography, sketches and painting as they create a fun travel journal.
She has twice served as President of the Society of Watercolor Artists in Fort Worth 2010-2014 and 2020-2022 and has earned signature status in several art associations nationally.

About the Artist:
In my journey as a Southwest artist, I’ve blended my self-taught roots with the formal education and transformative experiences I’ve gathered along the way. My work is a celebration of the Southwest, capturing its spirit and sharing it with the world, just as I’ve always felt compelled to do. Through my art, I continue to explore and express the deep connection I feel to this region, ensuring that its beauty and cultural richness are honored and remembered for generations to come.
I want the world to know that my art is more than just paint on canvas; it’s a labor of love, a celebration of a region that has shaped who I am. My story is one of persistence, passion, and a deep connection to the Southwest. Through my art, I aim to share that connection with others, to evoke the same sense of wonder and reverence that I feel for this incredible part of the world. My brand is about honoring the beauty, culture, and stories of the Southwest, and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

About the Artist:
An artist speaks from personal experiences, knowledge, and beliefs and rarely gets to "see" the finished piece. The work is completed by the viewer's own imagination and intelligence.
A native Texan with an Associates Fine Art degree, I have painted full-time since 1999. Day-to-day, my focus is faith, family, friends and fine art. I am hooked on the process of trying to place my vision of something on canvas. I want to help viewers see things in a new way. Seeing through an artist’s eye is thrilling beyond words. What a gift that is. Here's an example of why I paint. In Rockport TX, I was with a group of artists painting in a boat yard. One of the workers stopped by to watch. He said, "I never knew it was beautiful." I hope my paintings change the way people understand their world.
Wherever I am, I prefer to paint from life and I am inspired by painting outside (plein air) or interiors/still life inside (or in the back yard). My style might be called painterly realism. A love for travel has taken me to wonderful locations—domestic and foreign--to paint and I have a treasure of reference photos from those trips.
Workshop teachers who have influenced me include: Ann Templeton, Gay Faulkenberry, Quang Ho, Scott Burdick, Ray Vinella, and Dick Turner. The legacies of Chase, Sargent, Sorolla, Bongart, Fechin, and scores of others live and inspire through images and written word. I am a member of the following: Outdoor Painters Society, American Impressionist Society, Visual Art League of Lewisville.
