Workshop: Painting with A Limited Color Palette

Karla Brady is a contemporary representational painter working in oils and watercolor. As a self-described "color nerd”, she uses a limited palette and loves to share what she has learned.


Objectives:

· Experiment mixing colors

· Create and utilize color wheel

· Make a small painting


Description:

Create your very own acrylic painting utilizing a limited palette of red, yellow, and blue. You will learn to mix colors and understand how to create secondary and tertiary colors as well as neutral shades. You will use a color wheel and explore limited palette options.


· All necessary materials are provided

· You may bring your favorite materials such as brushes, paints (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, etc.) canvas

· Bring an apron or wear your painting clothes

Only 15 seats are available for this workshop. You must be at least 16 years old or with an adult.


This workshop is held at the Grand Theater in Old Town Lewisville. The address is 100 N. Charles Street and we will be in Classroom 1.

Workshop: Painting Floral Still Life With Watercolor

Instructor: VAL Member, Murthy Mantha


Description: 

Create your very own floral still life painting with watercolor. Using photographs is a great way to create floral still life paintings. You will focus on selecting the elements of interest from your photograph and designing a composition. In this class you will explore practical tips, basic composition templates, and simplified color schemes. 


Objectives: 

  • Identify possible elements to paint
  • Develop studies of the subject
  • Create a small painting


Details:

  • All necessary materials are provided
  • Bring a photograph you took or obtained from a copyright free source from which to paint 
  • You may bring your favorite materials such as brushes, paints, even acrylic if you wish



  • Only 10 seats are available for this workshop. 
  • You must be at least 18 years old or with an adult. 
  • Location:  Lewisville Grand Theater:  100 N. Charles Street. We will be in Classroom 2.

Welcome to the Spirit of the Desert: A Southwest Art - Free Workshop! Join us for a fun and creative day where you can explore the beauty and culture of the Southwest through art. This in-person event will take place on Sat, Mar 29, 2025 at the Lewisville Grand Theater. Get ready to unleash your creativity and learn new techniques from our talented instructors. No prior experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the spirit of the desert!


Participants will explore the artistic spirit of the Southwest by creating their own stylized desert wildlife painting. Inspired by Steven Rodriguez’s unique approach, attendees will use bold colors, abstract patterns, and cultural influences to bring their canvas to life.


Supplies will be provided, however, if you would like to bring your own 16"x20" canvas along with acrylic paints (primary colors), feel free to do so.


Participants will walk away with:

  • A completed Espíritu del Desierto-themed artwork
  • Hands-on experience with folk art techniques
  • A deeper appreciation for Southwest artistic traditions


Children under 16 years or age must be accompanied by parents.
