Our special event, Conversations with Artists: what were they thinking? for the Portraits exhibition took place last Sunday, June 1st, from 3 – 5 pm.
We were delighted to see familiar faces as well as new members and guests. Thank you to everyone who attended — we love building community with you!
If you’ve never attended these events, you might be wondering…. why are people holding a giant pencil? 😊
The rule of the event is that whoever has the giant pencil has the floor to speak!

You’ll notice the pencil is particularly handy to make a point!
It was quite fascinating to hear the backstories behind the artwork. The hours of labor and emotions involved. The risk-taking and planning needed.
Some of the models were family members, some were the actual artists, and still others were perfect strangers from church and Walmart!
There’s no stopping an artist when on a mission to execute a creative vision!
Whether you are a VAL member, non-member or just want to support the arts in your community, Conversations with Artists is a great way to spend your afternoon.
You’ll make new friends, learn about art and you may even go home with a new piece of art for your wall!

Speaking of purchases, thank you to our newest friend from Lewisville Pawn Shop @lwvlpawn who not only stopped by for a visit but he also purchased, Sir Pierre T. Pigeon Esq.
We love our community!
Be on the lookout for announcements on upcoming Conversations with Artists events throughout the year.
