Workshop: Paintings with Spirit
Date/Time: Feb 28, 10 am – 12 noon

Description: Create your own underpainting and spirit cards in watercolor.  You’ll have the chance to analyze the lights and darks of your proposed subject.  After painting the spirit card, you will trace a sample or use your own drawing to paint from.  You will leave the class with a finished painting and a set of spirit cards. 

Objectives:

  • Create an underpainting or initial layer which serves as a base for subsequent layers of paint
  • Analyze ideas from underpainted spirit card
  • Design paintings that will be a more inspired over

Workshop: Beginning Watercolor
Date/Time: March 7, 10 am – 12 noon
Instructor: Rebecca Rector

Description:  While you create an abstract painting, you’ll explore various watercolor materials as well as discover a variety of techniques and approaches to using watercolor.  The instructor will demonstrate an array of approaches that will inspire you to continue painting far beyond your workshop.

  • Define approach to creating abstract paintings
  • Identify variety of techniques and materials
  • Discuss techniques, composition, contrast, and color

Workshop: Monotone Floral in Watercolor
Date/Time: June 13, 11 am – 1 pm
Instructor: Trish Poupard

Description:  In this watercolor workshop, you will focus on creating different strengths of neutral tint to create layering. Through manipulation of water and pigment you will discover light to dark values in the subject you are painting utilizing building up of watercolor. You will leave the workshop with your finished 8X10 piece of art matted and ready to frame.

Objectives:

  • Discover transparent watercolor
  • Utilize building up transparent washes
  • Manipulate and control brush strokes
