Stay informed about the best local art events!
The Visual Art League of Lewisville (VAL) is an all-volunteer organization with members who share an interest in the visual arts and fine crafts. We organize multiple member shows each year, provide local artists the opportunity to showcase their work, produce visiting artist lectures, networking with other organizations, educational art activities such as demonstrations and hands-on projects, and participate in various community events. VAL is very involved in serving and enriching our community through art-viewing experiences in a local setting, supporting the schools in their visual arts programs, and collaborating with other non-profit groups to serve our community. The Visual Art League welcomes membership into our group and is excited to have you participate in our activities and visit our exhibits. Membership includes artists, students, educators, and art patrons wanting to support the local arts community. Members provide docents to Lewisville’s Grand Theater Gallery and volunteer for other events there. The Visual Art League is proud to be sponsored in part by the City of Lewisville.

A Visual Art League of Lewisville Judged Member Show
Held in the Lewisville Grand Theater Main Art Gallery.
May 11 to June 1, 2024
Tim Martin will be discussing how he captures images with a telescope and some of the technical processes and challenges involved. He will be going more in depth on the subjective aspects such as framing, storytelling, messaging, choosing and creating color palettes, applying saturation, and injecting contrast to reveal the beauty and true nature of objects in the cosmos in an artistic and aesthetically pleasing way.
Tim is a retired attorney who lives in Lewisville with his artist wife Christi Martin. Tim initially received his B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics from West Texas State University in the early 1980s. He then worked as a programmer and executive for healthcare IT companies until 2007 when he decided to go to law school. He graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law in 2011 with a J.D. and an LL.M—the first person in school history to graduate with two law degrees on the same day. He then worked in healthcare IT again as an EVP and General Counsel until 2021.
Now he spends most of his time doing astrophotography, traveling with Christi in their RV, and visiting their daughter Danielle, who lives in Stockholm. Tim has had a lifelong interest in astronomy and aerospace and is ecstatic that he now has time to study it more deeply. Christi has been very supportive and her artistic eye has been a tremendous help.
